China Visa Application Statement: Identify the Document You Are Being Asked For
Before writing a China visa application statement, identify the document the request actually names. CEV Express's tourist visa checklist refers to a Visa Application Statement described in the Embassy's online guide. A request to explain a particular circumstance is a different task, and neither should automatically be treated as an invitation letter.
Start with the current instruction in your application, including any linked form. This article checks the main site's guidance and the official sources identified below as of November 1, 2026. It helps you recognize the request; it does not supply a statement or personal history to submit.
Identify the named form before choosing a sample
The Chinese Embassy's online application guidelines, dated September 22, 2025, link a downloadable Visa Application Statement. In the upload instructions, the Embassy tells applicants to complete the template, print it and upload it. These are the Embassy's instructions; check the office responsible for your own application before using them elsewhere.
The Embassy's statement PDF concerns current presence in the United States, residence within the Embassy's consular jurisdiction and truthful previous visa-application history. It has selections about earlier Chinese visas or residence permits and circumstances relevant to first applications, including previous Chinese nationality or a parent's Chinese nationality.
That purpose gives you a useful identification check. If your instruction links this form, use its actual fields and applicable choices. Do not replace it with a general essay about why you want to visit China, or select an answer because it resembles another applicant's situation.
The form has an applicant-signature field and a date field. It instructs a guardian to sign for a minor under 16. Those details belong to this specific form; they are not a signature rule for every document someone might call a visa statement.
Separate a form from a request for an explanation
The Embassy's online guidelines also say a statement about circumstances may be requested in the application’s Other Information section. They provide a place for explanatory materials or additional documents requested during preliminary review. A case-specific explanation therefore needs to answer the actual request, rather than imitate the named form's structure.
CEV Express's company letter, cover letter and invitation guide makes the authorship distinction clear: the applicant explains their own circumstances or a discrepancy when requested; an employer verifies its own employment or funding facts; an inviting party supplies its own invitation.
Read the request with four questions in mind:
- What fact or discrepancy does the office want clarified?
- Does it name a form or link a template?
- Who holds the information and is responsible for the document?
- What does it say about language, attachments, signature and submission?
These questions help you locate the instruction, rather than create new requirements. If the request is unclear, seek clarification from the responsible office before deciding that a personal letter, employer letter or downloaded template will satisfy it.
Do not assume the statement is an invitation
For tourist applicants in the United States, the invitation-letter guide explains that an invitation is no longer a routine L-visa requirement under the January 2024 simplification. Applicants still follow the current checklist and any additional case-specific request. That simplification does not make every document labeled “statement” unnecessary: the tourist checklist separately points to upload and declaration instructions.
If an invitation is actually requested, identify its genuine issuer. CEV Express does not supply an inviter or issue, ghostwrite or buy invitation letters. The inviting party is responsible for its own letter, and the applicant checks their own information.
Likewise, an employer's letter describes facts the employer can verify. It is not automatically a replacement for an applicant's explanation. Use the linked guides to resolve authorship instead of collecting several unrelated letters in the hope that one will match the request.
Check the format without inventing extra rules
Keep the document's source and its delivery method separate. The Embassy distributes the named statement as a PDF, but its online upload instructions say to upload image files, not PDFs or other formats. Follow the current system instructions for the completed document rather than assuming the download format is also the upload format.
For a different explanation request, use the format and signature instructions actually provided. The sources checked for this article do not establish one prose length, notarization rule or electronic-signature rule covering every China visa statement. If one of those details is unresolved, ask about that detail instead of borrowing a requirement from an unrelated template.
Before finalizing a document, compare it with the application and the supporting records. The company-letter guide recommends checking identity, dates, purpose and funding for discrepancies where those details are relevant. Have the responsible person correct their own information; adding an explanation should not silently change somebody else's document.
Keep the statement within the larger application
A statement is one document question, not a replacement for the application process. For the broader context, use China visa for US citizens and how to apply for a Chinese visa. Those overviews cover the route through preparation and submission without turning this identification check into another general checklist.
After online review, follow the current physical-packet instructions for printed forms, signatures, photographs, originals and supporting documents. Do not assume an uploaded statement completes the later handoff. Your individual instructions govern what must be supplied physically.
If you want preparation help, review the services available when you start an order. Form review checks omissions, formatting and inconsistent information within the selected service. It does not replace your factual answers or the consular office's decision about what it needs and accepts.
China visa application statement FAQ
Is every statement request asking for the same document?
No. First distinguish the named Visa Application Statement from a request to explain a specific circumstance. Use the exact instruction and linked form to identify the task.
Should I write a personal story instead of filling the form?
Use the requested document. If the office asks for its named form, complete that form with accurate information. If it requests an explanation, address the stated question using your own facts.
Does the tourist invitation simplification remove statement instructions?
Do not treat it that way. The tourist checklist discusses the invitation simplification and separately directs applicants to the applicable declaration and upload instructions.
What if I cannot tell who should write or sign?
Ask the responsible office to clarify the requested document and signature instruction. The applicant, employer and inviter have different factual responsibilities; a generic online sample cannot resolve an unclear request.
