China group visa vs individual visas: what changes?
An organizer can coordinate separate applications without applying for an official Group L visa. Compare the evidence, travel flexibility and cost questions before choosing.

Compare the actual arrangement
| Question | Coordinated individual applications | Official Group L route |
|---|---|---|
| What is being coordinated? | Separate applications, with shared preparation reminders. | A group-tour visa arrangement requiring the appropriate group documentation. |
| Invitation requirement | Depends on each person's category and the responsible office's instructions. | Los Angeles lists an invitation for a tourist group issued by an authorized tourism unit. |
| Can an agency submit? | Los Angeles permits an authorized person or agency to submit; this does not convert applications into Group L. | Confirm the specific group arrangement with the issuing authority and qualified organizer. |
| Different travel dates? | Check each issued visa's entries, validity and permitted stay against that person's route. | Do not assume a participant can separate freely; confirm group travel and change procedures first. |
Leaving the group needs more than a spreadsheet change
Article 10 of China's foreigner entry and exit regulations provides for applying to the local exit-entry authority to change a visa when objective reasons require separation after entry on a group visa. NIA guidance also calls for a certificate from the receiving travel agency. This is a formal procedure, not an automatic right to split the itinerary.
If someone plans to arrive later, leave early or visit relatives independently, raise that before booking a group-visa arrangement. Obtain the applicable entry/exit and separation instructions from the authority; this guide does not assert one universal minimum group size, port rule or fixed stay for all Group L arrangements.
Fees, processing and validity: ask three separate questions
Ask about
Cost
- Record before committing
- Separate official consular charges, selected CEV services, courier charges and any tour-organizer charges. Do not assume a group discount or monthly-credit facility.
Ask about
Time
- Record before committing
- Record the online-review stage, passport-submission stage and delivery time separately. An estimate is not a guaranteed departure deadline.
Ask about
Visa terms
- Record before committing
- Validity is the window for using a visa to enter; permitted stay controls time in China; entries control reuse. Check the terms actually issued for each applicable document.
The Los Angeles FAQ says the consular office decides category, validity, stay and entries for each application. This comparison does not quote a universal Group L price, faster processing time or validity period.
Choose preparation support after the route is clear
CEV does not advertise Group L handling here. For individual applications, confirm service coverage and choose only the preparation, consular handoff and courier services needed. No service purchase guarantees a visa.
