# Q2 visa processing time: plan the whole family timeline

Separate preparation, online review, consular processing and passport return. The Embassy’s published processing reference starts with passport submission; it is not the time from starting a form to receiving a passport at home.

## One trip, four separate clocks

| Family preparation | You begin collecting documents | Inviter response, prior passports, birth and parent records, corrections |
| Online preliminary review | The online application is submitted | Review requests and document corrections; no fixed family-wide completion date is established here |
| Consular processing | The passport is submitted | The Embassy publishes four business days regular, or three for express in urgent situations, as average references; some cases take longer |
| Collection and shipping | The passport is ready for collection | Collection arrangements, chosen carrier, weekends, holidays and delivery issues |

The Embassy’s reference applies to its visa process. Confirm timing and express availability with your responsible office. Online review, preparation, transport and return shipping are not included in that passport-submission clock.

## Work backwards without inventing an approval date

| Planning point | What to enter on your own calendar |
| --- | --- |
| Desired departure | Your target date, with changeable arrangements while documents remain unresolved |
| Passport needed at home | A date before departure, leaving your chosen delivery and disruption buffer |
| Possible collection | The office’s earliest estimate, then confirm the actual collection status |
| Physical submission | Only after the required online status and a complete original-document packet |
| Preparation begins | Earlier still, with time for inviter documents, child/identity questions and corrections |

This is a planning worksheet, not a calculator of the latest safe application date. If a required stage cannot fit before departure, discuss options with the office and your travel provider rather than assuming express service removes the uncertainty.

## What a historical median would and would not tell you

A historical order-to-completion measure includes more than consular work: customer document delivery, processing, return arrangements and when staff marked an order complete can all affect it. It is not an approval rate, a deadline or a prediction for your family. No family-specific historical median is published on this page; verified sample, period and measurement evidence are needed before adding one.

Travel-document applications have their own process. Do not apply Q2 visa timing to a child whose document route has not yet been determined.

## When the estimated collection day arrives

1. Check the official application status and any messages requesting additional documents.
2. The Embassy FAQ says the date on the collection slip is the earliest estimate. Follow its timing instructions and wait for ‘Passport to be collected’ before collecting.
3. After receipt, check names, passport number, entries, validity and stay duration; promptly report errors to the office.
4. Arrange any purchased CEV passport pick-up or shipping using the order instructions. CEV cannot guarantee an issuance or delivery date.
